Centric's newest colleagues, the  Pharmacare team in Edmonton, recently won the W.L. Boddy Pharmacy Team Award at the APEX awards celebration held on April 21st 2015. Each year, this prestigious award is presented to an Alberta healthcare team (pharmacy staff team or multidisciplinary team that includes one or more pharmacists) who, by virtue of their collaboration skills and use of the pharmacist’s full scope of practice, positively impact the health of individuals in their community.

Pharmacare's winning team, led by Vice President of Clinical and Pharmacy Strategy Ryan Stempfle works together to the full scope of their practice, pursuing additional prescribing authorization as a key strategic initiative. "Everyone’s input is valued and we are all part of the idea process," Ryan said of the team's approach. "Not only is it a privilege to be part of this team but also to serve our patients in the community and to provide them with positive health outcomes.”

The APEX awards were first initiated by the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) and the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association (RxA) in 2007 to recognize excellence in pharmacy practice in Alberta. In selecting this year’s recipients, the Awards Committee considered how the team incorporated the pharmacists’ full scope of practice and examined additional factors including staffing, workflow, staff training and development, policies and procedures, technology and innovative programs resulting in excellent patient care.

"Ultimately our team brings access to care into the community," Ryan added. "We do this by bringing a full scope of practice to offer timely assessment, intervention, and follow-up to improve health outcomes, reduce risks of hospitalization, and enhance quality of life for our patients."
